Cate Beauman’s “No More Secrets” Release Celebration!

โ€œThe ultimate goal is expansionโ€”expanding the airport in phases and contracting with a major airline to maximize the islandโ€™s summer reach. Iโ€™d like to bring in flights from D.C., Atlanta, and Miami.โ€ Gwen blinked her surprise. โ€œWow, I didnโ€™t realize that was happening.โ€ He nodded again. โ€œThatโ€™s the long-term plan. Infrastructure needs to catch up before we start bringing more people in for a visit, though. Iโ€™d say weโ€™re three years away from the full implementation.โ€ โ€œI see.โ€ She made notes, not sure how much she liked the idea of Carter Island becoming a massive tourist attraction. They had numerous visitors every summer, but this seemed extreme. โ€œYou donโ€™t have much of a poker face, Gwen.โ€ Her gaze snapped to his. โ€œIโ€™m sorry?โ€ โ€œYouโ€™re frowning.โ€ โ€œOh.โ€ She immediately smoothed her features with a polite smile. โ€œI apologize.โ€ โ€œYouโ€™re not much on the idea, then?โ€ She shrugged. โ€œWeโ€™re not looking to turn Carter Island into a summertime circus. Itโ€™s unfortunate if Buzz and the council have given you that impression.โ€ โ€œThereโ€™s plenty of room for growth.โ€ โ€œAs a developer, Iโ€™m sure thatโ€™s your bottom line, but thereโ€™s also a need for conservation. I recognize that Thomas was too stuck in his ways when he was mayor. I also understand that Buzz is moving Sanderson in a new direction, but bigger isnโ€™t always better.โ€ โ€œI agree.โ€ She nodded decisively. โ€œGood. Because both of the founding families are on board with careful, well-considered growth, but neither the Sandersons nor Carters will tolerate developing to capacity. As a Carter myself, I can assure you that wonโ€™t be happening.โ€ A grin split Cadeโ€™s face. She felt her frown return. โ€œWhy are you smiling? What have I said thatโ€™s funny?โ€ โ€œYouโ€™ve certainly told me.โ€ Her temper began heating. โ€œThis is my homeโ€”my daughterโ€™s home. I have a duty to speak up and protect my birthright.โ€ Never again would she be complacent when something didnโ€™t sit right. โ€œItโ€™s been quite some time since anyoneโ€™s put me in my place. Most people wouldnโ€™t dare.โ€ She jerked her shoulders. โ€œYou donโ€™t frighten me much.โ€ He roared out a laugh, his head tipping back with the deep sound. โ€œDuly noted.โ€
