Wolfhunter River (Stillhouse Lake Book Three) by Rachel Caine

I’m so happy that this book as automatically downloaded on to my Kindle today. I ordered it as soon as I was able to (way back in December 2017), I’m sure the wait will have been worth it. As Rachel Caine is one of my favourite authors.
I know lots of Rachel’s fans have been waiting for this book just as I have. I don’t know when I’ll manage to fit it in to my reading list, as I may want to read book two again or maybe even book one as well. I’ll have to keep you up dated.
In Rachel Caine’s latest email update to fans she thanked us for being patient with her. See below for Rachel’s thanks to us.

Dear book-friends,
Thanks for being so patient. Last year, as I described to you in earlier newsletters, was an incredibly difficult journey for me, and not a whole lot got written in 2018 because of the surgeries and recoveries.
Wolfhunter River was my journey back to writing, and because of that, it’s become an intensely personal book for me.
Every book has themes, and I knew this story would be especially tricky; if you’ve been following the story of Gwen Proctor in earlier books (Stillhouse Lake and Killman Creek), you’ll know that particular duology centered around the threat posed by her ex-husband, Melvin Royal. Melvin was a shadow that blighted and dominated the lives of Gwen and her kids… but Wolfhunter River takes a different direction. I knew I needed to move Gwen toward something else, becoming someone else; her life would always be affected by her serial-killer ex, but that would no longer define her.
Transitional stories are tricky. But since I was also, in a way, adjusting to my own “new normal”… I understood Gwen. I got her burning desire not just to survive, but lift up others with her. I got that her world had opened, and at the same time, become even more uncertain; she no longer had that one opposing force to center herself against. Gwen was recovering. I was recovering. And there were moments of despair as I wrote this story when I thought I was too tired and dispirited to go on… but that’s why this was the perfect book to write. Because Gwen never, ever surrenders to that feeling, and she kept me going too.
There’s lots happening in Wolfhunter River: A cry for help from a woman Gwen doesn’t know. A girl her daughter’s age in mortal danger. Another child missing. A town so insular and isolated that to protect one sinister secret, it will also ignore monstrous crimes. And Gwen and Sam have to face the chasm of the past that lies between them.
This is Gwen, learning who she can count on. Learning not just how to survive, but thrive.
I hope Wolfhunter River thrills, chills, and sweeps you away on this tense and epic emotional journey Gwen and I took together. And Gwen’s story is far from over. Bitter Falls, the fourth Stillhouse Lake book, is nearly done! I’ll let you know as soon as I have a firm release date, but it’s likely early 2020.
I hope to see you soon at one of my many events listed elsewhere in this newsletter, and, as always–thank you. Thank you for your faith in me, and your support.

Book Review On
Killman Creek (Stillhouse Lake Book Two)
Another great book from one of my favourite authors. I haven’t read a book of Rachel Cains’ that I haven’t liked.

This book is for adult as it’s full of adult content.
I read the first book in Stillhouse Lake within a day as I couldn’t put it down, it’s taken me a bit longer to read this instalment due to the time of year, and yet again I didn’t want to put it down and found myself reading late into the night. This book like the first in the trilogy it grabs you in to what is going on with the characters. So much so I feel as though I’ve watched a movie in my mind and not read a book.
I don’t like to give too much away in my reviews as I don’t like to spoil it for others. What I will say is that Gwen is trying to keep her ex away from their children he is a notorious killer on the run from prison, who has people helping to track his family and making everyone who believed Gwen doubt her. Will they find out the real truth before it’s too late. Well I’m sorry you’ll have to read it to find out.
